Privacy Policy

This policy covers both the DirRock desktop application and the dirrock.com website. DirRock is built around a simple promise: your file system is your own.

The short version

DirRock collects no personal data. The app does not phone home, does not send telemetry, and contains no third-party analytics. The website does not use cookies, does not track you, and does not embed analytics scripts. All web fonts are served from this domain — no requests leave dirrock.com while you browse.

Controller (responsible party)

The controller responsible for processing personal data within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

Andreas Fülscher
Kühnehöfe 21
22761 Hamburg
Germany
Email: info@create-visions.de

What DirRock does on your machine

DirRock is a Windows desktop application that helps you browse, organize, and preview the files you already have. To do that, it needs ordinary access to the folders you choose to navigate to:

  • It reads file and folder metadata (name, size, modified date, file type) so it can show them in a list.
  • It uses Windows’ built-in shell APIs to render thumbnails and icons for your files.
  • It opens 3D model files (GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY, DAE, 3DS, FBX) inside the detail window when you ask it to preview one.
  • It performs file operations (copy, move, rename, delete to Recycle Bin, ZIP) when you trigger them.

All of this happens locally. Nothing leaves your computer.

Data DirRock stores on your computer

DirRock keeps a small amount of state in a local SQLite database so your tags, favorites, color highlights, recents, and saved workspaces survive between sessions. The database lives at:

%APPDATA%\com.createvisions.dirrock\data.db

You can delete this folder at any time. DirRock will start fresh on the next launch with no tags, favorites, or workspaces.

Window positions, view layouts, and similar UI preferences are also stored locally, in the standard browser-style local storage that Tauri (the application framework DirRock is built on) provides for desktop apps.

Telemetry

None. DirRock contains no telemetry SDK, no error-reporting beacon, and no usage tracking. There is no “Share usage statistics” setting because there is nothing to share.

Network access from the app

DirRock does not need a network connection to run. The app does not perform any background HTTP calls. Network access is only used in two cases, both initiated by you:

  • Browsing folders that live on a network share or mounted network drive — the underlying file access happens through Windows itself, exactly the way Windows Explorer would do it.
  • Opening links to external sites (such as the Microsoft Store listing) when you click them.

Third-party services in the app

None are integrated. DirRock does not use Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, Sentry, Crashlytics, or any similar service.

The Microsoft Store

If you install DirRock through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft handles the distribution and update mechanism. Microsoft’s own privacy practices (including download counts and crash diagnostics surfaced to the publisher in aggregate) apply to the Store itself, not to DirRock’s app code. DirRock as a publisher only sees aggregated, anonymous Store statistics.

When you visit dirrock.com

The website itself is a static site — plain HTML, CSS, and a small piece of JavaScript that handles smooth scrolling and a click-to-zoom screenshot viewer. Nothing on the site reads, writes, or transmits personal data.

However, like every server on the internet, the hosting provider that serves dirrock.com keeps short-lived access logs that contain technical information necessary for delivering the website to you:

  • The IP address of the requesting device
  • The date and time of the request
  • The requested URL (for example /index.html)
  • The HTTP status code returned
  • The amount of data transferred
  • The browser’s User-Agent string
  • The referring URL, if any

This data is processed solely to deliver the website to you, to keep it running stably, and to defend against abuse such as DDoS attacks. The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in operating a functional and secure website). I do not combine this data with other sources, and I do not use it to identify individual visitors.

The website is hosted by a third-party static-site provider (currently Cloudflare Pages or a comparable service). The provider may itself process the technical access data described above on my behalf as a data processor under Art. 28 GDPR.

Cookies

The dirrock.com website does not set any cookies. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Web fonts

The website uses the open-source typefaces Inter (SIL Open Font License) and JetBrains Mono (SIL Open Font License) for its visual identity. Both fonts are served directly from dirrock.com — no requests are made to Google Fonts or any other third-party CDN.

External links

The website contains a single outbound link of note: a link to the Microsoft Store listing for DirRock (apps.microsoft.com and the deep link ms-windows-store://). When you click it, you leave dirrock.com and enter Microsoft’s ecosystem, which has its own privacy practices.
